Teacher Conference 2026 – memory is the residue of thought

This week, the historic Guildhall hosted our annual Trust-wide Teacher Conference, bringing together over 700 teachers from across our academies for a morning focused on teaching, learning and their professional development.

This year we were delighted to have educator, author and Director of Education at No More Marking, Daisy Christodoulou, as our keynote speaker. Daisy, a former English teacher, spoke to our staff about why knowledge matters, how we remember, and the importance of designing and reviewing lesson plans based on what we want students to think about because “We remember what we think about – memory is the residue of thought.“

That afternoon, our 100+ senior leaders gathered at City of London Academy Highbury Grove for a collaborative session on Driving School Improvement led by Rachel Sewell and Millie Denby from Steplab, the evidence-informed professional development platform and training provider. The workshop for our senior leadership teams drew upon current research and evidence from some of the highest-performing schools in the country to create a practical blueprint for academy improvement that is both aligned and sustainable.

The event reflected our shared commitment to continuous improvement and collaboration, as we work together to provide high quality education for every student across our Trust.
